Today you are one step closer to a new you where you feel empowered and on a positive path to growth and well-being.
One of my primary goals as a therapist is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. Many times people have tried their very best to solve their problems but have been unable to with their current resources. This can often lead to feelings of frustration and hopelessness, depression and anxiety, and other emotional, behavioral, and physical symptoms. These can be compounded by experiences of trauma or loss; or, your symptoms may be caused by trauma and loss specifically. It is at these times, especially when your relationships and/or work are negatively impacted, that working with a therapist can be particularly helpful.
Furthermore, if you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ), being subjected to heterosexism or homophobia by others can worsen the problems you already face or create trauma in and of themselves. Moreover, internalized homophobia may be inappropriately interpreted as well. This is when having a LGBTQ Affirmative therapist is critical for the best possible therapeutic outcome.
While I do specialize in work with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, or intersexed individuals, and their allies (LGBTQQIA), I work with all adults who wish to make positive changes in their lives and relationships. I offer collaborative psychotherapy and I am an integrative clinical psychologist. This means I use various techniques as appropriate, such as EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Techniques, and others. I use a non-pathologizing style of talk therapy and will include other family members, families of choice, extended family networks, friends, coworkers, or community members if appropriate and desired by the client.
Ultimately, my goal is to create a safe and compassionate environment to explore and work. I am experienced in working with a diverse range of individuals, couples, and families and have a profound respect for all lifestyle choices, cultural backgrounds, and identities.
My personal style is direct but calming, curious, compassionate, respectful of personal values, belief systems and lifestyles. I have a personal commitment to remain culturally sensitive and to be ready to broaden my awareness to new areas if needed.
My Skills and Expertise include the following:
Adults, LGBTQ issues, Gender Identity and Transgender issues, Coming Out, Polyamory, EMDR, Relaxation Training, Mindfulness Based Interventions, Narrative Therapy, Structural Therapy, CBT, Depression, Trauma/Posttraumatic Stress, Chronic Medical Conditions/Chronic Illness/Disability, Substance Abuse Disorders, ACA/Codependence, Adjustment to Major Life Transitions, Anxiety, Artist/Creativity, Bipolar, BDSM/Kink Aware, Grief/Loss, Mentally Ill Family Members, Midlife Issues, Spiritual Issues, and Stress Burn Out.
